Clinic Corner

Affordable, sliding scale therapy with Master’s-level clinicians

The Clinic Corner offers affordable, sliding scale therapy with Master’s-level clinicians who are completing their clinical training at Center for Mindful Relationships. This option is designed to make therapy more financially accessible while ensuring care remains well-supported, relational, and grounded in compassion-based awareness.

Experienced Guidance

The Clinic Corner is designed for clients seeking accessible therapy within a supportive training environment. It is CFMR’s training clinic for Master’s-level clinicians in marriage and family therapy. Therapists in this program work under close supervision from highly experienced licensed clinicians, supporting care that is relational, attentive, and thoughtfully paced. This model supports collaboration, attention to the therapeutic relationship, and makes affordable, sliding scale therapy possible while maintaining ethical, high-quality care.

Clinic Corner therapists are supported by the same clinical leadership that guides all therapy at CFMR. The practice was founded by Laura Carr, LMFT, and Daniel Carr, LMFT, who developed the model Compassion Based Awareness Therapy and provide all clinical supervision within the clinic.

All therapists in the Clinic Corner receive weekly training and supervision from highly experienced licensed clinicians, supporting care that is relational, attentive, and thoughtfully paced, while maintaining ethical, high-quality care under the guidance of experienced, licensed clinicians. This continuity of supervision supports the ongoing development of clinicians in training.

What is Clinic Corner?

Our Approach

All therapy at CFMR, including the Clinic Corner, is grounded in Compassion Based Awareness Therapy (CBAT). This approach emphasizes presence, curiosity, and compassion toward internal experience, rather than diagnosis-driven or time-limited treatment models.

Center for Mindful Relationships is a San Diego–based nonprofit therapy practice founded by Laura Carr, LMFT, and Daniel Carr, LMFT, who developed Compassion Based Awareness Therapy (CBAT) and continue to guide its clinical application across the practice. Over the years, CFMR has supported the training of more than 300 therapists who have gone on to become licensed clinicians all over the United States. This continuity of leadership shapes the clinical culture and approach offered within Clinic Corner.

CBAT integrates trauma-informed care with an understanding of neurobiology and somatic experience, supporting awareness of how emotional patterns live in both the mind and the body and how safety is experienced internally. CBAT is also directly informed by the teachings of Zen teacher Cheri Huber, which emphasize a practical path of expanding awareness, noticing how suffering is created, and returning again and again to unconditional love. This orientation supports a deeply compassionate, trauma-informed approach to healing, rooted in compassion rather than force or correction.

At CFMR, there are no limits placed on the number of sessions, nor do we prescribe a predetermined course of therapy. There are no artificial waitlists or caps on care. Therapy unfolds at each client’s pace, within a supportive and relational framework.

How To Get Started?

At Clinic Corner, clients are matched with a therapist based on availability and clinical fit. Individual therapist selection is not available for this option.

Getting started at CFMR is straightforward. You can reach out through our Contact page (below) or by calling the clinic. A staff member will complete a brief intake with you. During that conversation, you’ll be matched with a therapist and, your first appointment can be scheduled.

Appointments are often available within the week, depending on availability and scheduling needs. You’ll be provided with all the information you need to prepare for your first session.

Fees

Clinic Corner offers affordable, sliding scale therapy. Fees are based on financial need and are established during the intake process, using monthly or annual income as a general guide. Session fees typically range from $40–$100.

Sessions are 50 minutes unless another length is discussed and agreed upon. Relational sessions (couples or family therapy) are offered at a slightly higher rate than individual sessions.

Our goal is to make therapy accessible while ensuring care remains thoughtful, ethical, and sustainable.

If you’re unsure whether the Clinic Corner is the right fit, you’re welcome to reach out and we can help you decide.

Reaching out does not commit you to starting therapy. We’re happy to answer questions and help you explore your options.
