Meet Our Therapists

Daniel Carr, LMFT #31037

I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 1993. In my work with families, couples and individuals, I have found that happiness lies in having rich, caring relationships with people that we love. To develop loving and caring relationships with others requires skill and compassion. My job as a family therapist is to offer insight and awareness to ways to develop these kinds of relationships. I have found that my clients demonstrate open mindedness, a courageous spirit and perseverance to achieve this goal. I have been blessed throughout the years to work with many people who have taught me what it is to be human. It has always been my desire to give back what I have received.

Psychotherapy in its true form is a journey and not a destination. Psychotherapy was developed as a growth and development experience. It is not about pathologizing or diagnosing, but about discovery and awareness of the human condition. In working with clients, I seek for them wholeness and connection in their lives.

Laura Carr, LMFT #38400

Hello! I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2001. I have extensive experience working with individuals, adolescents, couples and families who desire to enrich their lives through the personal relationships they have with themselves and others.

It takes a tremendous amount of courage and strength to reach out when you are struggling. To be human is to understand that in life “pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.” Sadly, most people who experience suffering don’t know there is another option. Suffering takes many forms such as anxiety, depression, addictions, low self esteem (aka self-hate), lack of self care, feeling easily overwhelmed, sabotage, aggression, self-harm, emotional detachment from others, just to name a few...all of which are primarily a disconnection with oneself.

Individuals have a multilayered, often rigid, belief system and are commonly unaware of how these beliefs shape and define their world. Beliefs directly influence one’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors. In our sessions, you will learn how this whole process works. You might have intellectual knowledge of it, but having someone who is not in your experience helps illuminate all those areas that are in your blindspot.

You will learn how to practice awareness (awake/conscious) of your internal experience. Being aware leads to being at choice. As we explore your life experiences, we will identify your disabling beliefs, and you can learn the skills necessary to bring about the changes you desire. These skills will allow you to be with yourself as you are experiencing the painful experiences that naturally occur in life, thus allowing you to let go of the maladaptive behaviors that lead to suffering.

Many people have experienced trauma/s in their past that are connected directly to their current struggles. Traumas come in all types of experiences and we do not compare trauma. We will gently and safely explore these at your pace. We do not go digging for things that aren’t showing up. My bias is that what needs to be witnessed will reveal itself. We can trust the process.

What you learn about yourself in therapy directly impacts your relationships. In couples sessions, I use the visual of turning the microscope on yourself so each partner becomes 100% responsible for their own role. We are co-creators of our relationships, and the relationship can only be as healthy as each of its parts. In couples therapy each person will learn about their own individual dynamics and how it impacts the relationship. Couples will learn specific techniques that allow for resolution and intimacy. Our choices will either bring us closer together or push us further apart.

I have been with the love of my life, Daniel Carr, since 1998 and we have 2 amazing sons, 2 dogs full of personality and a cantankerous and loyal 21 year old cat and a few fish too. Parenting has brought a myriad of emotions to my life that I never imagined; deep joy, complete frustration, awe, laughter, tears, exasperation, exhilaration and, overall, many opportunities for growth. When time allows, I enjoy travel, listening to music, reading, watching movies, exercise, going on spiritual retreats and spending time with dear friends.

Therapy can be scary. Asking for help can be difficult. Let me be the first to tell you that I admire you for being willing to take this step. Guess what? The next one is to jump right in.

Trust me, I know how hard it can be. The good news is that you’re not alone. It’d be an honor to walk alongside you in this time.

Who am I? I am a therapist, a friend, a believer, a teacher, a wife and a mother. I genuinely love and enjoy people.

What is it like to work with me? It’s a relationship, just like any other. I invite you to trust me with your stories and your feelings. In turn, I promise to create a safe space while we work towards meeting your goals and uncovering the greatest version of yourself. This is your time and we will go at your pace.

Who do I work with? I enjoy counseling individuals, couples and families.

I have a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as a Master’s degree in Linguistics. Each year, I work in Ethiopia providing education to prevent human trafficking in the local areas.

I’ve been married for 20+ years to my husband and together we are raising 5 children to grow into their fullest selves. Believe me when I say - I understand that being married can be hard, yet beautiful.  Raising kids can be demanding, yet joyous.

When I’m not working or co-running a household with my husband, you can find me curled up on my patio reading a good book with my two dogs by my side (they’re cute but they’re naughty). I enjoy going on adventures, bringing people together and spending time in beautiful forests.

I am currently accepting new clients offering sessions in person and via telehealth.

Whether you are unsure of what to expect or are looking for from therapy, or you already know exactly what you’d like to work through, I am excited for your journey to a more authentic you.

One of the most important aspects of our lives is relationships, whether with friends, family, or self. Through healthy connection, relationships have the capacity to illuminate who we truly are and heal the parts of us that are craving to be freed. By exploring the “why” behind our actions, beliefs, and emotions we become more capable of deeply and compassionately knowing ourselves, thus impacting all the relationships around us.

My approach as a therapist is not to change you, but to help you explore and expand your self-concept to enable you to have a different relationship with your past, present, and future self. We will do this by first becoming curious and witnessing with non-judgmental compassion. This process allows you to experience insight into the why and choose to either accept or change your relationship with these parts of yourself.

When working with couples or families, addressing the critical concerns comes first before we dive into a deeper exploration of intimacy and connection.

I approach all therapy from a trauma-informed perspective, so we will go as slowly and safely as needed. The way in which our traumas show up and are processed is unique to everyone, so there is not a standard process that therapy must follow; it will be unique to you and you alone.

After over a decade of military service, I have a passion for anyone who works in a demanding, high-stress environment that impacts their personal relationships without yield; know there is a different way.

In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors in nature. This is usually through endurance sports that have a rhythmic way of grounding me and keeping me present in my life.

Best wishes along your journey whether with me or wherever your path leads you.

Life creates so many challenges, and everyone needs support from time to time. You may already feel like the process of finding a therapist is a challenge in itself, but rest assured the search is worth it! It’s about finding someone you can connect with, who encourages you to be yourself without fear of judgment, and who is invested in your personal journey. This is why it is such a pleasure for me to offer clients the compassionate support they deserve!

As a dedicated psychotherapist, I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and children experiencing a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, neurodivergence, relationship and marital issues, body image and eating disturbances, family dynamics, parenting, and child/adolescent behavioral issues. This experience has confirmed for me that effective therapy must be both personalized and collaborative. Thus, I take a client-centered, holistic, and compassion-based approach in which therapy goes at your own pace and is tailored to your unique needs, preferences, strengths, and goals. Typically, this involves examining all facets of a person’s life (rather than focusing solely on symptoms, behaviors, or problems), including values and beliefs, lifestyle, environment, relationships, culture, and racial influences, to name a few.

My priority is providing clients with a sense of safety that is built on authenticity, reciprocity, and transparency. This safety opens the door to healing and allows us to explore aspects of yourself that have, perhaps, been avoided or unobserved. I strive to help my clients discover how they are the expert of their own experiences, and help them attain healing, growth, and lasting changes.

My clients, family, and social circle alike describe me as genuine, empathetic, and playful. In my personal life, I maintain my sense of humor by being a wife and mother. I have been with my husband for 14 years, despite his refusal to let me adopt all the homeless animals. Together we have two young children, both of whom challenge, entertain, and enlighten us in completely different ways. As an unintended “soccer mom”, I have very little spare time…but if I did, I would spend it seeing musical performances and concerts, reading, dancing, and spending time with friends.

Welcome, dear stranger, fellow wanderer, on this step of your personal journey to healing and fulfillment.

I strive to support all those who want to find a meaningful and mindful approach to healing through strengthening their compassion for themselves. None of us is broken, hence none of us can be fixed. However, sometimes we feel lost on the way. In my role, I can assist you to access your inner wisdom and activate your innate abilities to heal. Together, we will learn how to become aware of one’s emotional states without being caught in them, how to approach suffering with curiosity rather than shame, fear, or guilt, and how to hold oneself with a compassionate heart.

I have a passion for working with adults and adolescents of all gender and cultural identities who are survivors of various forms of trauma, are challenged by depressive or anxiety-related symptoms, and struggle to find meaning in their lives. I have helped individuals explore their unique intersectional identities and cope with minority stress. I also have experience providing pre-marital and relational counseling to couples who face relational difficulties as well as families who navigate internal and external dynamics.

My approach to therapy is
Holistic: Healing can be a complex, often lifelong process. To support you on this journey, I utilize various methods of care to stimulate mental, physical, relational, and spiritual wellbeing.

Systemic: Trauma tends to be multigenerational and intergenerational. Whether I see you for individual, couples, or family therapy, it is helpful to take into account your surroundings’ impact on your state of mind. Together we will draw attention to past conditioning and the ofte unbidden ways in which it arises in your present, creating discord and disconnect.

Client-centered & strength-based: Our sessions will be tailored to your individual needs while utilizing your unique strengths, whether they be personal, professional, or relational.

Non-pathologizing: Rather than focusing solely on a person’s mental health diagnosis, I conceptualize symptoms as a body’s response to trauma or soul wounds. You are not your problem.

Based on compassion and awareness: Our approach at the CFMR is based on the concept of developing compassionate awareness to individuals’ challenges and past trauma to foster positive change and healing.
